Join my conversation with Minda Honey, author of THE HEARTBREAK YEARS, a mmoir about one woman's journey through her 20s and the love and relationships she experiences before she turns 30.

We talk about the book, and how the people within become "characters" even as it's a memoir. We talk about making friends as an adult. We talk about her writing journey and how it got from fictional stories, to essays, to a full-fledged Memoir.

She also tells us which of the many cities she has lived in would be the life of a party, if cities were humans!

Today I decided to forgo the one rule I made for myself for this series: Begin each entry with “Today I [did this or that].”

This is a short story I wrote for a contest. They gave the contestants prompts for the stories. The Prompt for this was: Satire. The Main character had to be a Roller-blader, and the Setting was a Heatwave.

I have been a life-long reader, since I found
the Narnia books as a twelve-year-old. Books have been my constant companion since then, everything from C.S. Lewis to Tolkien, to Edgar Allan Poe and Hemingway. In my 20s I found Yann Martel and Margaret Atwood and Anne Tyler and fell in love with LitFic. In my early thirties I found Sheila Heti and Karl Knausgaard and Rachel Cusk and fell in love with Autofiction. And now, toward the end of my thirties, I’m finding all kinds
of new authors (thanks to BookTok), including N.K. Jemison, Octavia Butler, Tamsyn Muir, and many many others. I’m always looking for deeply flawed complex characters chasing after something profound. I’m so glad at this chance to meet new people and to build a community around great literature.
